All content produced by The Corporate Executive Board Company (CEB) is proprietary to CEB and subject to copyright and other intellectual property protections. CEB content available through our individual member websites is intended to be used by CEB clients for internal business purposes only. In these instances, CEB clients do not require approval to share or cite content within their organization.

External use of CEB content by clients or other entities must be approved in advance by CEB. Content requiring approval includes, but is not limited to, citation of infographics, benchmarking data, spreadsheets, tables, and text excerpts. Approvals are also required to use or reproduce the CEB logo, trademark, or service marks.

A limited amount of CEB content may be cited freely, which includes information available on CEB's public websites and blogs. Requirements for using and citing public web content follow.

If you are uncertain about proper citation or permissions, please seek approval. Please allow five to seven business days for review and/or approval of all requests.

Rules Governing Use of CEB Content

  • Any external or commercial citation of CEB content is prohibited without express written permission.
  • The CEB name may not be referenced or appear in any client or vendor boilerplate.
  • Full reproduction or citation of CEB research is prohibited. Reprints are available for purchase.  
  • All citations must be limited in scope and presented verbatim.
  • Citations must not endorse nor appear to endorse a client, product, or service.
  • Citations may not be used to compare companies, products, or services.
  • Citations, quotes, and excerpts from CEB content that mention specific companies and/or products are prohibited.

To Request Permission for Use:

  • Contact CEB's Brand Team at ceb_brand@executiveboard.com.
  • Provide the following information and attachments:
    • Description of organization requesting permission;
    • The content you wish to use in context of the material where it will appear;
    • The original source with excerpted content highlighted;
    • A description of the audience, communication objective, and vehicle; and
    • The date(s) and, if applicable, venue of use.
  • All citations of CEB research must include the following information:
    • CEB, Title of Research, Arlington VA, Year of Publication, Page Number(s) [if applicable]
  • If you are requesting permission to cite CEB content in advertisements, please note the following:
    • CEB will only consider advertising permission for client companies.
    • All requests for ad-related permissions must include the placement of the advertisement.

Citing Content from CEB's Public Websites

  • Web Pages: All citations of CEB web pages must include the following information:
    • CEB, Web Page Title, Date Published or Last Modified, Web Address.
  • Blog Posts: All citations of CEB blog posts must include the following information:
    • CEB, Blog Post Title, Blog Post Author, Name of Blog [if applicable], Date Published or Last Modified, Blog Post Web Address.
  • Video and Other Multimedia: All citations of CEB video and other multimedia must include the following information:
    • CEB, "Video Title," Date Posted [or Accessed if posting date is unavailable], Web Address.

You may apply your own citation styles. Chicago-style citation recommends italicizing the titles of studies and names of blogs while enclosing in parentheses the titles of blog posts, web pages, and videos.

Policy Changes

CEB reserves the right to change these guidelines at any time, without notice. These guidelines are for general information purposes only, and CEB reserves any and all rights to the research including but not limited to the right to deny any and all uses of the content.

To Address Copyright Violations

Pursuant to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, Title 17, United States Code, Section 512(c), a copyright owner or its authorized agent ("Complainant") may submit a complaint alleging copyright infringement to CEB's Designated Agent if Complainant has a good-faith belief that its works are being infringed by material subject to CEB's control. To ensure receipt, CEB strongly recommends that Complainant send the complaint by overnight mail. CEB will investigate complaints and respond to proper notification sent to:

A proper notification MUST have at least the following information or it may be IGNORED:

  1. A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of Complainant;
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed or, if multiple copyrighted works at a single site are covered by a single notification, a representative list of such works at that site;
  3. Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of infringing activity and that is to be removed or access to which is to be disabled, and information reasonably sufficient to permit CEB to locate the material;
  4. The Complainant's full legal name, address, telephone number, and, if available, an e-mail address at which Complainant may be contacted;
  5. A statement that Complainant has good-faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and
  6. A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notification is accurate and that Complainant is authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

CEB will investigate the subject of a proper notice. If appropriate, CEB will remove or disable access to the allegedly infringing material and notify the entity that submitted such material ("Respondent").


CEB TowerGroup Citation Policy

All syndicated and custom research created by CEB TowerGroup, is intended to be used by clients of The Corporate Executive Board Company (CEB) for internal business purposes only. Any use of CEB TowerGroup research and analyst quotes with a non-client audience must be approved by CEB TowerGroup.

To request approval to cite CEB TowerGroup content or quote an analyst:

  • Please provide the following information and attachments:
    • The quote or content you wish to use placed in the material where it will appear
    • The original source of the quote/citation with the excerpted content highlighted
    • A description of the audience, communication objective and venue

  • We will reply by email within five-to-seven business days.

Client/Member Privileges:

Clients/Members do not require approval to use CEB TowerGroup syndicated research when the audience consists of only fellow employees of the client/member company. Fair uses in such cases can include a copy or slide of scorecards, product comparison(s), spreadsheet, graphic, table, or portion of text less than a paragraph from the research, provided that all such citations adhere to the guidelines below.

Policies:

  • All syndicated research produced by CEB TowerGroup, including content accessed through CEB TowerGroup.com and tg.executiveboard.com websites, is proprietary to CEB and subject to copyright and other intellectual property protections.
  • All external or commercial citation of CEB TowerGroup custom and syndicated content and analyst quotes is prohibited without CEB's express written permission. Such uses include, but are not limited to advertisements, press releases, and sales collateral in all types of media; SEC filings or other legal documents; links to any websites maintained by CEB.
  • Permission must be requested to use or reproduce our logo, trademarks or service marks in all types of media.
  • All citations must be limited in scope and presented verbatim.
  • While it may be requested, CEB generally prohibits full reproductions and/or distributions of our content unless reprints are purchased from CEB.
  • CEB will not approve requests for CEB TowerGroup analysts to endorse a client product or service.
  • CEB will not approve requests that use CEB TowerGroup content to compare companies, products or services.
  • CEB will not approve requests to link to CEB TowerGroup videos and webinars that mention specific companies and/or products.
  • CEB will not approve requests to cite, quote or excerpt from CEB TowerGroup videos and webinars that mention specific companies and/or products.
  • The CEB TowerGroup name or the names of its analysts may not be used:
    • In email subject lines, press release headers, and/or subheads. The phrase, "Independent Research Firm" may be used.  

Guidelines:

  • In general, if you are uncertain of proper citation for a particular use, please seek approval.
  • All citations of CEB TowerGroup research must be attributed in the following manner:
  • CEB TowerGroup, Title of Study, City, State: CEB, Year of Publication, Page Number(s) [if applicable].
  • In Advertisements:
    • All citations must comply with the Policies.
    • Advertisements shall not appear to be co-sponsored by CEB or CEB TowerGroup.
    • Services or products advertised shall not appear to be endorsed by CEB or CEB TowerGroup.
    • All requests must include the location and placement of the advertisement.
  • In Press Releases:
    • All citations must comply with the Policies.
    • CEB TowerGroup may not be referenced or appear in any client, member or vendor boilerplates.
  • In Video/Multimedia:
    • All citations must comply with the Policies.
    • Citations, quotes and excerpts from CEB TowerGroup videos and webinars that mention specific companies and/or products are prohibited.
  • In Webinar/Speaking Engagements:
    • All citations must comply with the Policies.
    • Co-sponsors may use the CEB TowerGroup name to promote webinars.
    • Citations, quotes and excerpts from CEB TowerGroup videos and webinars that mention specific companies and/or products are prohibited.
    • It must be clear that a CEB TowerGroup analyst is a guest/featured speaker/presenter and the event is not being co-hosted or co-marketed in any way.

Additional Policies Related to Technology Assessments:

  • All CEB TowerGroup citations must comply with the Policies.
  • CEB TowerGroup Technology Assessment research is a qualitative evaluation of a set of vendors in a specific market; it is NOT a stack ranking.
  • CEB will not approve requests to use CEB TowerGroup Technology Assessment research to endorse the position of one vendor over another or to negatively endorse the position of a  competitor.
  • Vendors with products that have been deemed best-in-class for one or more categories within an Assessment) may issue a press release and/or include their classification in collateral materials pending they adhere to the following guidelines:

Press Release Development:

  • Vendors that issue a press release based on a CEB TowerGroup Technology Assessment must include the following standard disclosure verbatim and in its entirety:

  • Vendors May NOT:
    • Use the CEB or CEB TowerGroup name in a press release headline.
    • Promote their numeric product ranking in either a headline or a subhead.
    • Use retrospective wording, for example, "fifth consecutive year" or "again."
    • Use comparative wording, for example, "only," "highest" or "sole."

Report Text & Images:

  • Vendors May:
    • Excerpt the "CEB TowerGroup View" and/or category definitions from the Technology Assessment only if it is used verbatim and its entirety.
  • Vendors May NOT:
    • Excerpt or use the CEB Technology Assessment graphics in any form factor.
    • Directly compare their numeric score or position with those of other vendors or product.
